Back in Black was released in the United States in March 2007, at which point she was fully in the grip of drink and drugs. Winehouse did eventually agree to go to rehab, and more than once, but the months and years in between her brief attempts at sober living were increasingly sordid and sad, filled with private chaos performed for the public.
